AI and Sales Part 2

Following on from my last blog, I have been investigating AI further and have some further ideas.

I am continuing to receive emails that I am fairly sure come from ChatGPT.  So, I wondered how many people are using it for sales outreach.  It turns out that some are but not many.

My recent LinkedIn poll asked the question: Are you using ChatGPT to help to write emails?

The responses were

Yes                                                          4%

Yes but I edit it first                          36%

No                                                          60%

A few comments that were made included:

“While tools like ChatGPT can streamline communication, true personalization and authenticity are irreplaceable. It’s essential to strike a balance and ensure that our messages resonate on a human level. Thoughtful outreach will always stand out!”

“Its useful when dealing with formal emails "Dear Sir Madam" sort of thing, requesting refunds for the flight cancellations, emails to Councils etc, but not for work for me (perhaps RFQs maybe?). Honestly there is no fun in sales using it really.”

“This just screams laziness and inauthentic to me. Bring back the skill of writing our own emails!”

My own use of ChatGPT is definitely growing.  I used it to research companies that I am interested in.  while all of this information could be found using Google search, there is no doubt that using ChatGPT I get a concise, easy to understand, response much faster than if I used more traditional search.

I also used it to give me ideas as to what questions to include in a feedback questionnaire to be used after an event.  I had thought of some questions to include but I was not sure I had thought of everything that I should ask, so I used AI to give me more ideas.

Most usefully, I got it to write me some children’s stories that I can use in my presentation skills training.  Reading these stories, with rhymes and cadence, are great ways to practise speaking out loud.  However, I have long ago given away the books that I read to my son so rather than buy more, I just got ChatGPT to write me some more.  In this instance, the quality of the story is not as important as the style and rhythm so it is a great way to create them.

So, there is no doubt in my mind that AI is improving the work that I do and ensuring that I deliver a better service to my clients.  However, I don’t expect it to replace me any time soon!
